Mission San Rafael Arcangel

The Mission Today

The mission system ended because of the Spain and Mexico war and in 1821, Mexico won. It also ended because it was put under the control of Governor Mariano Vallejo. Vallejo took almost everything from the mission and brang them to his ranchos so Rafael was just a building with nothing inside or outside. Now it is a place where people can come to look around, learn and observe.

The missions have an impact on California because if the Spanish didn't come, we'd be indians and some of us would be learning to be hunter-gatherers but we aren't because the Spanish taught our ancesters agriculture. The missions also impacted California because people use some of the mission architecture on modern buildings. Missions are special because they taught us about C.A. history and they also taught us to see how the Spanish changed our life.
